About the university
Beijing Wuzi University (BWU), located at the eastern section of Chaoyang North Road in Beijing, is a public full-time institution of higher education under the Beijing Municipal Education Commission. It features logistics and distribution as its distinctive strengths, with coordinated development across multiple disciplines including economics, management, science, engineering, humanities, and law. The university originated from the Materials Management Department of Beijing Institute of Economics, established by the national materials department in 1963, and was formally founded as Beijing Wuzi University in 1980. In 1988, following the restructuring of the State Council, the university came under the Ministry of Materials; in 1992, the Ministry of Materials was dissolved and replaced by the Ministry of Internal Trade, to which the university was transferred; in 1998, as part of the national higher education management reform, the university was placed under the administration of Beijing Municipality. In February 2018, with the approval of the Beijing Municipal People's Government, Beijing Commerce and Science School was merged into Beijing Wuzi University. As of May 2023, the campus covers over 600 mu (approximately 40 hectares) with a building area of 200,000 square meters, equipped with comprehensive teaching, research, and living facilities. The university offers 28 undergraduate programs, including 9 national first-class undergraduate program construction sites and 2 national characteristic program construction sites. It has 7 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 10 professional master's degree authorization categories. The total enrollment exceeds 8,000 students, including over 6,000 undergraduates and more than 1,500 master's students, along with international students. The faculty comprises 826 staff members, including 560 full-time teachers. As of June 2025, the university has 12 teaching units. It has 2 key disciplines under Beijing municipal construction, with Management Science and Engineering selected for the Beijing Higher Education 'High-Precision-Sharp' discipline construction queue and jointly developed with Beijing Jiaotong University. The university also collaborates with Capital University of Economics and Business in joint doctoral student training. Beijing Wuzi University was the first institution in China to offer undergraduate education in logistics, pioneering domestic logistics theory research. It systematically introduced the concept of logistics to China and conducted in-depth studies, achieving a series of groundbreaking results: it established the first undergraduate program in futures, the first in logistics management, and the first in procurement management nationwide, and built the first futures simulation laboratory and the first national-level teaching demonstration center for logistics systems and technology. In 1997, Vice Premier Li Lanqing, who oversaw education, made a special visit to inspect the university. By the turn of the century, the university had developed into a public full-time institution with economics as its foundation, management as its mainstay, and coordinated development across multiple disciplines including economics, management, science, engineering, humanities, and law.
