About the university

Shandong University of Science and Technology (SDUST), located in Shandong Province, is a full-time public undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and under the administration of Shandong Province. It is a co-established university by the Shandong Provincial People's Government and the State Administration of Work Safety, a member of the National Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program, and a university implementing the Shandong Province 'Strive for First-Class' high-level university initiative. SDUST originated from the Shandong Mining Area No.2 Coal Mine Vocational School established in 1951 and the Jinan Coal Mine School established in 1956, which later developed into Huainan Mining Institute and Shandong Coal Mine Institute respectively. In 1963, Huainan Mining Institute merged into Shandong Coal Mine Institute. In 1971, Shandong Coal Mine Institute and Tai'an Coal Mine School formed Shandong Mining Institute. In November 1981, it was approved as one of the first batch of master's degree-granting units in China. In October 1995, it was approved as a doctoral degree-granting unit. In 1999, Shandong Mining Institute merged with Shandong Coal Education College to form Shandong University of Science and Technology. In 2001, Shandong Finance School merged into the university.
