In January 1949, the People's Liberation Army took over the institute, and it resumed classes in February of the same year. On September 8, 1950, Hebei Provincial Institute of Technology was renamed Hebei Institute of Technology, and its affiliated school was renamed Hebei Institute of Technology Affiliated Engineering School.
