In 1950, to promote the common prosperity and development of all ethnic groups and to train ethnic minority cadres and various technical professionals in Guangxi, the Guangxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Provincial People's Government, following the instructions of Chairman Mao Zedong and based on Guangxi's actual conditions, decided to establish the Guangxi Branch of the Central Institute for Nationalities. In 1952, the inauguration ceremony of the Guangxi Branch of the Central Institute for Nationalities and the opening ceremony of the first cadre training class were held in the provincial government conference hall. In 1960, the university became a multi-disciplinary institution with three departments (Politics, Chinese Language and Literature, and History), four specialized programs (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Foreign Languages), and two divisions (Cadre Training and Preparatory Studies), with a student population of 979 and a faculty of 300. In 1993, the university was awarded the title of 'Advanced University in Party Building and Ideological and Political Work' by the Organization Department, Propaganda Department, and the Party Group of the State Education Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
