The application requirements are described as relatively undemanding. For students with some Chinese proficiency (HSK 4 or HSK 5), the language requirements for undergraduate, master’s or doctoral study are presented as an advantage. However, competition for study in China has intensified, particularly for scholarships with living allowances. To improve their chances, applicants should prepare complete materials in advance and supply valuable supporting documents. About the university
Anhui University (AHU), located in Hefei, Anhui Province, is administered by the People's Government of Anhui Province. It is a co-constructed university by the Ministry of Education and the Anhui Provincial Government, a national "211 Project" university, a national "Double First-Class" construction university, and a key comprehensive university under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province. Founded in 1928 in Anqing, then the provincial capital of Anhui, it was renamed Provincial Anhui University in 1930. After being reestablished and renamed National Anhui University in 1946, it moved from Anqing to Wuhu in 1949 and merged with Anhui College to form a new Anhui University. In 1956, it relocated to Hefei. In 1980, the departments of political science and Chinese language from Anhui Labor University were merged into Anhui University. In 1983, it was designated as a provincial key comprehensive university by the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Anhui Provincial Government. In 1996, it was selected into the national "211 Project". In 2000, Anhui Finance School and Anhui Bank School were merged into the university. In 2017, it was included in the national "Double First-Class" construction. As of March 2025, the university has four campuses: Qingyuan, Longhe, Shihe Road, and Sizhou Road, as well as one National University Science Park, covering a total area of 2,831 mu (about 188.7 hectares) with a building area of approximately 1.2 million square meters. It comprises 33 colleges (teaching departments) and offers 89 undergraduate programs. It has 14 postdoctoral research stations, 23 first-level doctoral degree authorization disciplines and professional doctoral degree categories, and 65 first-level master's degree authorization disciplines and professional master's degree categories. The university has 3,453 faculty and staff members, nearly 34,000 full-time undergraduate students, nearly 15,000 doctoral and master's students, and nearly 500 international students. In 1905, Anhui Higher School moved from Lusigiao to the new campus built on the site of the old Jingfu Academy on Tong'anling, expanding its enrollment to 240 students, with an actual enrollment of 300. In 1922, Xu Shiying, then governor of Anhui Province, adopted suggestions from Anhui celebrities and organized the Anhui University Preparatory Office to prepare for the establishment of Anhui University. In April 1926, after Gao Shidu became governor of Anhui Province, he instructed the Department of Education to actively prepare for the "University of Anhui Province"; in the autumn, Anhui University was formally established, initially enrolling preparatory students, with undergraduate programs starting one year later. In February 1928, Anhui University published enrollment brochures in newspapers such as Shenbao, announcing its establishment that year and enrolling 172 preparatory students in two batches of examinations and admissions. On April 10, the opening ceremony marked the formal establishment of Anhui University after nearly seven years of preparation. In November, Anhui University began enrolling undergraduate students. On February 1, 1929, the 77th meeting of the provincial government passed the "Organizational Outline of Anhui Provincial University," officially naming the university "Anhui Provincial University." On September 27, the "Anhui University Bulletin" was published, issued weekly with four pages per issue.
