About the university
Anhui Science and Technology Engineering University (formerly Anhui Science and Technology University) is a full-time undergraduate institution approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and under the administration of the Anhui Provincial People's Government. It is a project university for the National Education Modernization Promotion Project, a university implementing the Ministry of Education's 'Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program,' a second batch pilot university for the 'Three Comprehensive Education' reform in Anhui Province, one of the first batch of application-oriented high-level universities in Anhui Province, and a 'Double Specialty' university in Anhui Province. The university originated from the Northern Anhui Advanced Agriculture and Forestry School established in 1950; it was upgraded to Fengyang Agricultural College in 1960; merged with the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department of Anhui Agricultural College in 1965 to form Fengyang Branch of Anhui Agricultural College; merged with the Huaibei Branch of Anhui Agricultural College in 1981 to establish the Northern Anhui Branch of Anhui Agricultural College as an independent institution; renamed Anhui Agricultural Technical Teachers College in 1985; renamed Anhui Technical Teachers College in 2000; renamed Anhui Science and Technology University in 2005; became a master's degree granting unit in 2021; and in February 2026, the Ministry of Education approved the renaming of Anhui Science and Technology University to Anhui Science and Technology Engineering University. As of March 2026, Anhui Science and Technology Engineering University has three campuses in Fengyang, Longhu, and Chuzhou, covering an area of over 2,600 mu; its library holds 1.78 million paper books and 1.54 million electronic books; it has 2 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points and 12 professional master's degree authorization categories; it has 14 secondary colleges offering 67 undergraduate programs; it has over 1,400 faculty and staff members, and about 22,000 full-time undergraduate and master's students. On May 10, 1950, the Cultural and Education Office of the Northern Anhui Administrative Office held a preparatory meeting for the Northern Anhui Advanced Agriculture and Forestry School, deciding to temporarily use the former British-American Tobacco Company factory buildings in Mentai, Fengyang County for schooling. On August 18, the school officially started classes. On November 7, at a meeting commemorating the 33rd anniversary of the October Revolution in the Soviet Union, the school affairs committee decided to designate this day as the founding anniversary of the school. In spring 1953, in accordance with the Ministry of Education's directive on unified naming of national secondary technical schools and the notice from the Provincial Department of Agriculture, the school was renamed 'Anhui Fengyang Agricultural School,' abbreviated as 'Fengyang Agricultural School'; the Provincial Department of Agriculture issued the school seal and embossed seal, and the school issued badges. On April 1, 1954, the Central Higher Education Ministry approved the school to offer four specialties: agronomy, plant protection, animal husbandry, and veterinary medicine, with a three-year program. In 1960, with approval from the Provincial Party Committee, Anhui Fengyang Agricultural College was established on the basis of Anhui Fengyang Agricultural School, abbreviated as 'Fengyang Agricultural College.' In 1961, the Provincial Agricultural Work Department decided to make major adjustments to agricultural colleges across the province; among the eight newly established agricultural colleges (Hefei Agricultural College, Anhui Agricultural College, Anhui Aquatic Products College, Su County Agricultural College, Tunxi Tea College, Wuhu Agricultural College), seven were merged, leaving only Anhui Fengyang Agricultural College. In August of the same year, Anhui Agricultural College was merged into Anhui Fengyang Agricultural College.
