Many international students turn to university or partial scholarships to improve their chances of admission. Anhui Jianzhu University’s Belt and Road Scholarship is described as having relatively undemanding conditions, particularly supporting 1+4 applicants (preparatory language study and undergraduate study) and creating opportunities in China for students with weaker foreign-language proficiency. [The source then adds the isolated word “background”.] However, competition among international candidates is increasing, especially for scholarships with living allowances. Prepare early, improve academic ability and provide additional supporting documents such as recommendation letters and a clear research plan. **This information was updated through 2024 and may change with university or scholarship organization adjustments. About the university

Anhui Jianzhu University (AJU), located at No. 292 Ziyun Road, Economic and Technological Development Zone, Hefei, Anhui Province, is the only multi-disciplinary university in Anhui Province featuring civil engineering and architecture disciplines. It is a university jointly built by the Anhui Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. In July 2025, in terms of discipline construction, Anhui Province will actively promote cooperation between Anhui Jianzhu University and Tongji University in discipline construction; Tongji University will support Anhui Jianzhu University in developing characteristic universities, characteristic disciplines and programs, and doctoral degree programs, and will organize leading talents in disciplines to support Anhui Jianzhu University in improving its discipline construction level in various ways according to specific work agreements. Anhui Jianzhu University was founded in 1958. It has gone through periods such as Anhui Construction Engineering School, Anhui Institute of Architecture and Industry, and the Architecture Branch of Hefei University of Technology. In 1986, Anhui Institute of Architecture and Industry was re-established. It began joint master's training in 2004 and obtained the right to confer master's degrees in 2006. In 2013, the school was renamed Anhui Jianzhu University. In 2016, the Anhui Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development signed a cooperation agreement to jointly support the construction of Anhui Jianzhu University, making it a province-ministry co-built university. In 2021, the university was approved as a doctoral degree-granting institution. As of the end of September 2025, Anhui Jianzhu University has two campuses, Ziyun Road and Jinzhai Road, covering a total area of 1,030.25 mu (approximately 68.68 hectares), with a building area of 530,000 square meters and total teaching and research equipment valued at over 440 million yuan. It has 13 schools (departments) and 60 undergraduate programs. It has 1 postdoctoral research station in civil engineering, 1 first-level doctoral degree authorization point in civil engineering, 13 first-level master's degree authorization points, and 17 professional degree categories. There are over 19,300 full-time undergraduates, over 3,200 postgraduates, and over 1,200 full-time teachers. The history of Anhui Jianzhu University can be traced back to Anhui Construction Engineering School in 1958. In September 1958, to support the construction of Anhui, according to the instructions of the then Ministry of Construction Engineering, 324 teachers and students from Suzhou Construction Engineering School and 4 teachers from Shenyang School of Planned Economy came to Hefei, and together with 179 teachers and students from the Training Class of Anhui Provincial Construction Department, established Anhui Construction Engineering School. The school was initially located at Dongchengang on Qingnian Road (now Huizhou Avenue) in Hefei. In March 1960, the staff of Anhui Construction Engineering School grew to 99, with 587 students, offering two majors: Industrial and Civil Architecture, and Silicate. In the same year, the Anhui Provincial Party Committee instructed the school to expand from a secondary specialized school into one of the first institutes of architecture and industry in Anhui Province to cultivate higher-level architectural talents, starting from the second semester of that year. In September 1960, with the approval of the State Council, the Department of Civil Engineering of Hefei University of Technology merged into the school, and Anhui Institute of Architecture and Industry was formally established. The former secondary specialized school became an undergraduate institution, and Guo Moruo, then President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, inscribed the school name. At that time, the institute offered two majors: Industrial and Civil Architecture, and Architecture, with four-year undergraduate and three-year associate degree programs. It also had a secondary specialized department with three majors: Industrial and Civil Architecture, Silicate Cement, and Construction Machinery and Equipment. In the summer of 1961, due to temporary difficulties in the national economy, the institute was ordered to be dissolved. The original faculty and students from Hefei University of Technology returned to their former school, while the two associate degree classes that had been upgraded from the school were attached to Anhui Institute of Technology to complete their studies. The undergraduate program of Anhui Institute of Architecture and Industry was downgraded back to the secondary specialized Anhui Construction Engineering School. In 1962, the Anhui Provincial People's Committee decided to dissolve Anhui Construction Engineering School, and the original Dongchengang campus was taken over by the 104th Hospital of the People's Liberation Army.
