Fuyang Normal University, abbreviated as Fuyang Normal University, is located in Fuyang City, Anhui Province. It is a provincial general institution of higher learning established by the Anhui Provincial People's Government and approved by the Ministry of Education. It has been recognized as an 'Advanced Unit for Social Practice Activities of National College and Secondary School Student Volunteers in the Summer 'Three Visits to the Countryside'', 'Advanced Unit for National Youth Legal Education', 'Anhui Provincial Civilized Unit', 'Advanced Institution for Party Building and Ideological and Political Work in Anhui Province', 'First Batch of Pilot Units for Comprehensive Reform of Anhui Provincial Universities', 'Advanced Collective of Anhui Education System', 'Advanced Unit for Social Science Popularization in Anhui Province', 'Excellent Teaching Management Unit in Anhui Province', 'Advanced Unit for Student Financial Aid in Anhui Province', 'Model Unit for Employment of Graduates from Anhui Provincial General Institutions of Higher Learning', 'First Batch of Provincial-level Entrepreneurship Colleges in Anhui Province', 'Demonstration School for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education of College Students in Anhui Provincial General Institutions of Higher Learning', and one of the first batch of 'Anhui Provincial Green Schools'. The university was initially founded in 1956, going through stages such as Fuyang Higher Normal Accelerated Class, Fuyang Middle School Teacher Training School, Fuyang Prefecture Normal College, and Anhui Normal University Fuyang Branch. In December 1978, with the approval of the State Council, Fuyang Teachers College was established. In June 2019, it was renamed Fuyang Normal University. In 2013, it was granted the right to confer master's degrees. In 2022, it was selected for the Collaborative Improvement Plan for Teacher Education. In 2024, it was approved as a key project for the construction of doctoral degree-granting units in Anhui Province. As of April 2025, the university covers an area of 1,143,400 square meters, with a building area of 929,600 square meters. It has 17 teaching colleges and a continuing education college, offering 70 undergraduate programs. There are 23 master's degree authorization points, including 8 academic master's degree authorization points and 15 professional master's degree authorization points, 1 postdoctoral research workstation, 4 provincial key disciplines, and 3 provincial applied peak cultivation disciplines. The university has 1,391 full-time teachers, 23,769 full-time undergraduate students, and 987 graduate students. In 1956, the Fuyang Higher Normal Accelerated Class was established, offering Chinese and Mathematics majors with a two-year program, and Physics, Chemistry, and Geography majors with a one-year program. In the autumn of 1957, the accelerated class was renamed Fuyang Middle School Teacher Training School, with the Chinese and Mathematics departments merged into Hefei Normal College. Among the one-year program students, except for those assigned to work, Physics-Chemistry and History-Geography departments were formed, planning for an additional year of study. However, due to the start of the 'Anti-Rightist Struggle', these students were assigned to work in the winter of 1958. In September 1958, the Fuyang Middle School Teacher Training School was restructured into Anhui Fuyang Prefecture Normal College, offering majors such as Chinese, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and History-Geography, with a two-year program. In 1960, a political accelerated class was added, recruiting two preparatory classes from junior high school graduates, which were later transferred to Fuyang Normal School in 1962. In the spring of 1962, Fuyang Prefecture Normal College was renamed Fuyang Middle School Teacher Training School. In the autumn of the same year, it began recruiting in-service teachers for further study, offering majors in Chinese, Mathematics, Foreign Languages, Biochemistry, and Politics.
