Shandong University

Shandong University (SDU), a comprehensive national key university directly under China's Ministry of Education, is ranked among the national 'Double First-Class' (Category A), 'Project 985', and 'Project 211' initiatives.

Founded in 1901 as Shandong University Hall, it is one of the earliest modern universities in China. In 2000, the former Shandong University, Shandong Medical University, and Shandong University of Technology merged to form the current SDU, offering a full spectrum of disciplines including arts, sciences, engineering, medicine, law, economics, and management.

SDU's flagship programs include Mathematics, Chinese Language and Literature, Clinical Medicine, and Materials Science & Engineering. Mathematics is particularly renowned, consistently ranking among the top 1‰ in ESI globally.

The university hosts 19 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering (including appointed ones), leading in fields such as fundamental mathematics, crystal materials, cardiovascular diseases, and archaeology.

SDU offers 49 first-level doctoral programs, 54 first-level master's programs, and 100 undergraduate majors across 13 academic disciplines. It has 45 post-doctoral research stations, 9 professional doctoral categories, and 35 professional master's categories.

The faculty includes numerous recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund and Changjiang Scholars. The curriculum emphasizes a blend of general education and specialized training, featuring a 'three-cross, four-experience' model (cross-discipline, cross-institution, cross-country; experiences in on-campus learning, overseas study, social practice, and research training).

SDU's three campuses each offer a unique environment. The Jinan campus is located in the city center, blending historic buildings with modern facilities. The Weihai campus sits by the sea, ideal for marine science and Korean studies.

The Qingdao campus, near the coast, features state-of-the-art facilities focusing on life sciences and information technology. Dormitories are well-equipped with air conditioning and private bathrooms. Canteens serve diverse Chinese and Western cuisines.
