The university comprises one college, 20 schools, and one basic teaching center, offering 74 undergraduate programs and a wide array of master's and doctoral programs.

The curriculum emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary learning, especially in marine science, fisheries, environment, and engineering, where students can engage in cutting-edge research projects.

Campus & facilities

OUC has four distinctive campuses. The Laoshan campus is the main campus with modern facilities, including libraries, laboratories, and sports venues. The Yushan campus, located in the old town of Qingdao near the sea, features traditional architecture and serves as the primary base for marine science and fisheries education and research.

The Fushan campus focuses on humanities, social sciences, and arts. The West Coast campus is a newly built area covering about 2800 mu (approx. 187 hectares), equipped with advanced ocean engineering experimental facilities.
