Overview

Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly built with Shanghai Municipality. Located in Shanghai, it has two campuses: Hongkou in the city center and Songjiang in a modern suburban area.

Founded in 1949 as the first foreign language university in New China, SISU is a signatory to the UN Memorandum of Understanding, a partner of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Interpretation, and a member of CIUTI.

Features & strengths

SISU's Foreign Languages and Literature discipline is a national 'Double First-Class' initiative and rated A+ in China's official evaluation, ranking among the top nationwide. It offers all six UN official language pairs (Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish, Arabic) and holds the highest global rating from the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) for its translation program—the only Chinese university to achieve this.

As a '211 Project' institution, SISU enjoys international acclaim in linguistics, translation studies, and area studies. It collaborates with over 400 universities and institutions in more than 60 countries, providing abundant exchange and joint degree opportunities.
