North China Electric Power University

North China Electric Power University (NCEPU), commonly known as Huadian, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, jointly established with a council of 12 major power groups including State Grid Corporation of China.

The university is headquartered in Beijing, with a separate campus in Baoding, Hebei, operating under integrated management. As a member of the national 'Double First-Class' initiative, a key institution under the '211 Project' and '985 Project Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform,' NCEPU is widely recognized as the 'cradle of China's power industry.' Founded in 1958 as Beijing Electric Power Institute, the university underwent several relocations and mergers before becoming North China Electric Power University in 1995.

NCEPU's core strength lies in its unparalleled industry connections and academic excellence. Co-established by 12 mega power groups (including State Grid, China Southern Power Grid, China Huaneng Group, etc.), the university boasts extremely high employment rates for graduates in the power sector, earning it the reputation as the 'cradle of power talent.' In the Ministry of Education's discipline evaluations, its electrical engineering program consistently ranks among the top nationwide, while disciplines such as power engineering and engineering thermophysics, and control science and engineering are also highly regarded.

The university hosts multiple national-level research platforms, including the State Key Laboratory of New Energy Power Systems, and conducts cutting-edge research in smart grids, renewable energy, and nuclear power. As one of the first universities to implement the 'Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program,' NCEPU emphasizes hands-on engineering and innovation skills, with students frequently winning top prizes in national competitions like the Electronic Design Contest and the 'Challenge Cup.' In the 2024 Soft Science ranking of Chinese universities, NCEPU placed 75th overall and first in the power field.

NCEPU comprises 25 schools and departments, offering 56 undergraduate programs, 10 doctoral degree programs (first-level disciplines), 24 master's degree programs, and 12 postdoctoral research stations. The faculty includes over 3,200 staff members, with more than 50% holding professorial or associate professorial titles, including several members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and national teaching masters.

The curriculum emphasizes the integration of theory and practice: undergraduates can join research labs as early as their sophomore year, while graduate students often participate directly in major national science and technology projects.

NCEPU's main campus in Beijing is located in Changping District, covering an area of approximately 1800 mu (120 hectares). The campus is lush with greenery and features modern buildings including smart classrooms and a virtual simulation experiment center.

Student dormitories are four-person rooms equipped with air conditioning and private bathrooms, ensuring comfortable living. The Baoding campus is equally well-equipped, and the two campuses share teaching resources with convenient transportation between them.
