Overview

Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU) is a provincial key university located in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, with a strong focus on teacher education. It is recognized as one of the first 'International Characteristic Universities' in Zhejiang and a 'Top Ten International Cooperation Unit'.

Founded in 1956 as Hangzhou Normal Junior College, it was renamed Zhejiang Normal University in 1985. ZJNU serves as a key hub for China-Africa educational cooperation, hosting national platforms such as the 'Practice and Research Base for Chinese Language Education in Africa' and the 'China-Africa Universities 20+20 Cooperation Plan'.

Features & strengths

ZJNU's core strengths lie in teacher education, African studies, and international Chinese language education. As an 'Education Aid Base for Foreign Countries' and a 'China Basic Education Aid Research and Training Base', it has trained numerous educators and administrators from developing countries.

Its Institute of African Studies is one of the earliest specialized African research centers in Chinese universities, gaining international recognition. The university also serves as the 'Zhejiang Province Confucius Institute Teacher Selection and Training Center', sending hundreds of Chinese language teachers abroad annually.

Teaching & research

ZJNU boasts a high-quality faculty of over 3,200 staff, with more than 40% holding senior titles, including national talents and overseas distinguished professors. The university implements an 'International Curriculum' plan, offering programs taught entirely in English and bilingual courses.

It has exchange and joint training partnerships with over 100 universities in more than 30 countries. Research platforms include national think tanks like the 'China-South Africa Humanities Exchange Research Center' and the 'Research Institute of the China-Africa University Alliance Exchange Mechanism', as well as provincial key labs and engineering centers.

Campus & facilities

ZJNU's four campuses each have unique features: the main Jinhua campus is lush with greenery, featuring modern classrooms, libraries, and sports facilities; the Hangzhou campus is in the provincial capital, offering access to international businesses and cultural resources; the West Lake campus is near the scenic West Lake; and the Lanxi campus is known for its eco-friendly environment.

Student dormitories are equipped with air conditioning, hot water, and private bathrooms. The campuses have multiple canteens, supermarkets, and cafes for convenience. International student apartments provide spaces for cross-cultural activities.
