University Profile

Introduction

A unique Sino-Russian partnership combining top universities from China and Russia to cultivate globally-minded innovators and future leaders.

Overview

Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU) is a sino-foreign cooperative university located in the International University Park of Longgang District, Shenzhen, China. Jointly established by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), and Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), it was approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2016 and welcomed its first students in 2017.

As a key member of the Sino-Russian Cooperative University Alliance, SMBU offers a trilingual education in Chinese, English, and Russian, creating a vibrant international atmosphere. The campus hosts students and faculty from Russia, China, and other countries, fostering cross-cultural exchange and academic collaboration.

Features & strengths

SMBU's core strength lies in the world-class disciplines of its parent universities: MSU excels in fundamental sciences like mathematics, physics, and chemistry, while BIT leads in engineering, materials science, and information technology.

Among its 18 undergraduate programs, four—Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Materials Science and Engineering, International Economics and Trade, and Russian—have been recognized as Guangdong Province first-class undergraduate programs, and four disciplines are provincial key construction disciplines.

Teaching & research

Academically, SMBU adopts the curricula of MSU and BIT, blending theoretical foundations with practical applications. The faculty consists of senior professors from both universities and globally recruited scholars, with over 40% being international faculty, most holding PhDs.

Small class sizes ensure personalized attention and interactive learning. Russian is a core instructional language, and the university offers intensive Russian courses to help students quickly gain proficiency. Research is supported by several Sino-Russian joint laboratories and research centers focusing on AI, new materials, and ecological environment.

Campus & facilities

The SMBU campus covers 333,700 square meters in Shenzhen's International University Park, featuring a blend of Chinese and Russian architectural styles set in a green, scenic environment. Facilities include smart classrooms, modern laboratories, a library, and a multi-purpose sports complex.

Student dormitories offer single and double rooms with air conditioning, private bathrooms, and high-speed internet. Multiple on-campus restaurants serve Chinese and Russian cuisine to cater to diverse tastes. The campus is conveniently located near shopping areas and a metro station.
