Yanshan University

Yanshan University (YSU) is a national key university located in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, China. Originating from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) in 1920, it became independent as Northeast Heavy Machinery Institute in 1960 and was renamed Yanshan University in 1997 after relocating to Qinhuangdao.

The campus covers 267 hectares with 1.25 million square meters of buildings, housing 18 colleges and 60 undergraduate programs. As a key university for world-class discipline construction in Hebei, YSU is renowned for its engineering strengths, especially in heavy machinery, materials science, and mechanical engineering.

YSU's flagship programs include mechanical engineering, materials science, control engineering, and computer science. Mechanical engineering, particularly heavy machinery design and manufacturing, is a traditional strength, earning the university the reputation as the 'cradle of China's heavy machinery talents.' It hosts national key laboratories like the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Forging Forming Technology and Science.

In discipline evaluations, mechanical engineering and materials science are rated A-level. YSU is among the first universities to implement the 'Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan,' emphasizing practical and innovative skills.

YSU boasts a highly qualified faculty, including academicians and recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. It offers 60 undergraduate majors, 14 doctoral programs, 30 master's programs, and 12 postdoctoral stations across 18 colleges.

The curriculum blends theory with practice, with some programs taught bilingually or in English. Research platforms include the State Key Laboratory of Metastable Materials Science and Technology and the Defense Key Discipline Laboratory of Extreme Condition Mechanical Structures and Materials.

YSU's campus is located in coastal Qinhuangdao, offering a pleasant climate with four distinct seasons. The green campus features modern and traditional architecture, lakes, and ample green spaces. Facilities include a well-stocked library, advanced laboratories, and engineering training centers.
