Xi'an University of Technology (XUT) is located in the historic city of Xi'an, a joint university of the central government and Shaanxi Province, primarily managed by the province. It is recognized as a 'Domestic First-Class University' in Shaanxi and a participant in the Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in Central and Western China.

The university traces its roots to 1949 when the government took over the National Beiping Senior Industrial Vocational School, later evolving through mergers of Beijing Mechanical College and Shaanxi Polytechnic University in 1972 to form Shaanxi Mechanical College, renamed Xi'an University of Technology in 1994.
