Hangzhou Normal University (HZNU) is a provincial key university located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. Administered by the Hangzhou Municipal Government and approved by the Ministry of Education, it is a key construction university in Zhejiang and a key support university of Hangzhou.

HZNU is also a member of the Excellent Teacher Training Program, a doctoral degree-granting institution, and a council member of the UNESCO China Entrepreneurship Education Alliance. Its history dates back to 1908 when it was founded as Zhejiang Government Two-Level Normal School, and it was renamed Hangzhou Normal University in 2007.

Features & strengths

HZNU's strengths lie in its distinctive features. First, teacher education is its traditional flagship, with a century of experience in training educators. As an Excellent Teacher Training Program university, its education and psychology programs are highly regarded nationwide.

Second, innovation and entrepreneurship education is a major highlight—as one of China's first national innovation and entrepreneurship training program universities, HZNU has won numerous national awards in this field. Additionally, the university excels in medicine, arts, and sciences, with 6 first-level doctoral degree authorization points and 25 first-level master's degree authorization points.

The curriculum emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, with small-class teaching, mentorship, and research opportunities for students. HZNU hosts multiple national and provincial research platforms, including key laboratories and engineering centers, and collaborates with its affiliated hospitals for medical research.

Campus & facilities

HZNU's three campuses each have unique features. The main Cangqian campus is located in Hangzhou Future Sci-Tech City, with modern facilities including smart classrooms, a library, sports centers, and student apartments.

The Yuhuangshan campus, near West Lake, offers an artistic atmosphere for fine arts students. The Xiasha campus is in a university town with convenient transportation and amenities.
