Overview

Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TUTCM) is located in Tianjin, a major port city in northern China. Its main campus sits by Tuanbo Lake in Jinghai District, covering over 2100 mu (about 140 hectares) with a beautiful environment.

Founded in 1958 as Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and renamed in 2006, TUTCM is a public full-time university jointly established by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Tianjin Municipal Government.

Features & strengths

TUTCM's core strength lies in traditional Chinese medicine, especially acupuncture and moxibustion. In 1982, it pioneered the Experimental Acupuncture course nationwide, combining traditional acupuncture with modern experimental science, winning a national teaching achievement award.

Its acupuncture discipline started enrolling doctoral students in 1988, one of the earliest in China. In 1992, TUTCM became the only university approved by the national education authority to establish an International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, initiating degree education for international students in TCM.

Teaching & research

Academically, TUTCM boasts a highly qualified faculty including many nationally renowned TCM experts. It offers 32 undergraduate majors such as Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, Acupuncture and Tuina, Nursing, and Pharmacy, with several national characteristic programs.

The curriculum emphasizes both theory and practice, supported by national experimental teaching demonstration centers and virtual simulation platforms. The university has over 20 provincial/ministerial key laboratories and engineering research centers, e.g., the Key Laboratory of Pharmacodynamic Substances and Mechanisms of Chinese Medicine.
