University Profile

Introduction

A century-old agricultural university in central China, blending global perspectives to cultivate top-tier talent for sustainable agriculture and food security.

Overview

Henan Agricultural University (HAU), located in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province, is a key provincial university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and the Henan Provincial Government.

Tracing its roots to the Henan University Hall founded in 1902, HAU has evolved into a national 2011 Plan university and a member of Henan's 'Double First-Class' initiative. With three campuses (Wenhua Road, Longzi Lake, and Xuchang) covering 2.65 million square meters, the university hosts nearly 38,000 students and 2,700 faculty.

Features & strengths

HAU's flagship programs include Crop Science, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, and Biotechnology. It boasts one national key first-level discipline (Crop Science), two provincial 'Double First-Class' disciplines (Crop Science and Veterinary Medicine), and four characteristic backbone discipline clusters.

In the fourth round of China's discipline evaluation, Crop Science and Veterinary Medicine ranked among the top nationwide. As the first provincial agricultural university co-built with the Ministry of Agriculture, HAU enjoys strong industry reputation.

Teaching & research

HAU employs over 2,700 faculty, including academicians and 50+ national-level high-profile talents. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning through national experimental teaching centers and partnerships with leading agribusinesses.

Research infrastructure includes 9 postdoctoral stations, 10 doctoral programs, 19 master's programs, and 30+ provincial/ministerial labs and engineering centers. Recent projects cover crop genomics, vaccine development, and smart agriculture.

Campus & facilities

HAU's three campuses offer distinct experiences: Wenhua Road in downtown Zhengzhou blends history with convenience; Longzi Lake features modern facilities and a scenic lakeside setting; Xuchang focuses on practical training.

The 2.65-million-square-meter campuses are lush with greenery. Facilities include smart libraries, high-tech classrooms, advanced labs, sports complexes, and student centers. Dorms are equipped with air conditioning, hot water, and private bathrooms.
