Introduction

A century-old agricultural university rooted in Northeast China, cultivating global leaders in agriculture and life sciences through internationalized research and education.

Overview

Shenyang Agricultural University (SYAU) is a national key university located in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province in Northeast China. Co-established by the Liaoning Provincial Government and the central government, SYAU traces its roots to the Provincial Fengtian Agricultural School founded in 1906.

The modern institution was formed in 1952 through the merger of Fudan University's College of Agriculture and parts of Shenyang Agricultural College, and was renamed in 1985. As a pilot university for China's Excellent Agricultural and Forestry Talent Education Plan and a key university under Liaoning's first-class university initiative, SYAU focuses on agricultural sciences while integrating life sciences, engineering, economics, and management to address global food security and sustainability.

Features & strengths

SYAU's flagship programs include Crop Science, Horticulture, Plant Protection, Agricultural Resources and Environment, and Veterinary Medicine. Crop Science is a national key discipline, and Horticulture is listed in Liaoning's first-class discipline development plan.

The university has strong industry reputation in plant science, animal science, and food science, having won multiple National Science and Technology Progress Awards. As a National Characteristic Key Discipline Project university, SYAU excels in agricultural biotechnology, smart agriculture, and agro-product quality safety.

The university offers 44 undergraduate majors, 18 first-level master's programs, 14 professional master's programs, and 11 first-level doctoral programs across agriculture, science, engineering, economics, management, law, and humanities.
