University Profile

Introduction

Liaoning Normal University: A provincial key university in Dalian, specializing in teacher education and cultivating outstanding educators for basic education.

Overview

Liaoning Normal University (LNNU) is a provincial key university located in Dalian, a beautiful coastal city in Northeast China. It is also a member of Liaoning Province's 'Double First-Class' domestic high-level university construction project.

Founded in 1951 as Lüda Teachers College, it was one of the first higher normal institutions established after the founding of the People's Republic. Over the past seven decades, LNNU has evolved into a comprehensive normal university with a strong focus on teacher education and a wide range of disciplines.

Features & strengths

LNNU's core strength lies in its deep-rooted tradition of teacher education and its outstanding capacity to cultivate high-quality educators for basic education. As a pilot institution for the Ministry of Education's 'Excellent Middle School Teacher Training Program,' LNNU enjoys a strong reputation in normal disciplines.

Its programs in Education, Psychology, Chinese Language and Literature, and Mathematics and Applied Mathematics are recognized as national first-class undergraduate programs. The university offers 10 first-level doctoral programs, 24 first-level master's programs, and 7 postdoctoral research stations, forming a complete talent cultivation system from bachelor's to postdoctoral levels.

Teaching & research

LNNU boasts a highly qualified faculty of over 1,900 staff members, with more than 50% holding professor or associate professor titles. Many faculty members have been recognized by national talent programs. The university emphasizes both teaching and research, hosting several provincial and ministerial key laboratories and humanities research bases, such as the Liaoning Key Laboratory of Marine Biological Resources and Ecology and the Liaoning Key Laboratory of Educational Informatization and Smart Education.

The curriculum integrates theory with practice: teacher education students complete systematic teaching internships, while non-normal programs offer abundant practical opportunities. The International Education College provides Chinese language preparatory courses, undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and short-term language and culture programs for international students, covering Chinese language, history, culture, and economics.

Campus & facilities

LNNU's two campuses offer distinct experiences: Huanghe Road Campus is located in downtown Dalian with convenient transportation and vibrant surroundings, while Xishan Lake Campus sits by Xishan Lake, providing a tranquil environment ideal for study and research.

Both campuses feature modern facilities including teaching buildings, libraries, gymnasiums, student dormitories, and dining halls. The libraries are well-stocked with extensive print and electronic resources. Student dormitories offer various room types equipped with air conditioning and internet access.
