University Profile

Introduction

A high-level university co-built by Jiangsu Province and three major oil giants, featuring chemical engineering and innovation education, located in dynamic Changzhou.

Overview

Changzhou University (CZU) is located in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, a modern city at the heart of the Yangtze River Delta economic zone. Founded in 1978 as the Wuxi and Changzhou branches of Nanjing Institute of Chemical Technology, it underwent several name changes before becoming Changzhou University in 2010.

As a provincial undergraduate institution jointly established by the Jiangsu Provincial Government and three state-owned oil giants—China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petrochemical Corporation, and China National Offshore Oil Corporation—CZU has deep industry ties in petrochemicals.

Features & strengths

CZU's flagship programs are in chemical engineering, petroleum, materials, and energy, highly recognized by industry due to its co-construction with three oil giants. It offers 3 first-level doctoral programs, 20 first-level master's programs, and 25 professional master's programs.

Chemical Engineering and Technology ranks among the top nationally in discipline evaluations. As a Jiangsu High-Level University, it holds a strong position among provincial peers. Innovation and entrepreneurship education is a key strength—as a national demonstration university, it has a dedicated entrepreneurship college and incubation base, with students winning top prizes in national competitions like the 'Internet+' contest.

Teaching & research

CZU has a highly qualified faculty of 2,562 staff, including 1,893 full-time teachers, many of whom are national-level experts. It comprises 28 colleges offering 67 undergraduate programs across engineering, science, management, economics, humanities, law, and arts.

Teaching emphasizes theory-practice integration, with multiple national experimental teaching demonstration centers and virtual simulation projects. Research platforms include 2 post-doctoral research stations and several provincial key labs, such as the Jiangsu Key Lab of Petrochemical Engineering and the Jiangsu Key Lab of New Energy Materials.

Campus & facilities

CZU has two campuses: Science and Education City and West Taihu Lake, both conveniently located in Changzhou. The Science and Education City campus is near a major academic hub, while the West Taihu Lake campus offers scenic lake views and fresh air.

Facilities are modern, with teaching and research equipment valued at over 500 million yuan, a well-stocked library, sports venues, and comfortable student dormitories equipped with air conditioning, hot water, and internet.
