Overview

Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU) is a public full-time university located in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, China, with a strong focus on aerospace. It is jointly administered by the Liaoning Provincial Government, the Ministry of Education, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense.

Founded in 1952 as Shenyang Aviation Industry School, it was renamed Shenyang Aerospace University in 2010. SAU offers a complete education system from bachelor's to doctoral degrees, with three first-level doctoral programs and one postdoctoral research station.

Features & strengths

SAU's core strength lies in its deep aerospace heritage and industry connections. As one of the six undergraduate aviation colleges under the former Ministry of Aviation Industry, it maintains close ties with major enterprises like AVIC and COMAC, resulting in high employment rates for graduates in aerospace manufacturing, design, and maintenance.

Flagship programs include Aircraft Design and Engineering, Aircraft Power Engineering, and Aerospace Engineering, with Aircraft Design and Engineering recognized as a national characteristic specialty. The university is a leader in drone technology, aero engines, and general aviation, having developed China's first independently designed general aircraft, the 'SAU-1'.

Teaching & research

SAU offers 53 undergraduate programs across engineering, science, management, economics, humanities, and law, with particular strength in aerospace, mechanical, and electronic information fields. The faculty comprises over 1,500 staff, with more than 40% holding senior titles, including several national talent program recipients.

The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning, featuring national-level experimental teaching demonstration centers and off-campus internship bases where students can participate in real aerospace projects. Research efforts are substantial, with numerous national and provincial projects in areas such as aerospace materials, manufacturing, and avionics.

Campus & facilities

The main campus is located in Shenbei New District, Shenyang, featuring lush greenery, lakes, and a pleasant environment. Modern facilities include state-of-the-art teaching buildings, a library, a gymnasium, and an aerospace engineering training center.

Student dormitories are well-equipped with air conditioning, hot water, and internet access, ensuring comfortable living. Multiple dining halls offer diverse cuisine options.
