Shanxi Agricultural University

Shanxi Agricultural University (SXAU) is a national key university located in Shanxi Province, North China, with its main campus in the historic city of Taigu and a second campus in the provincial capital Taiyuan. It is jointly established by the Shanxi Provincial Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and is designated as a research-oriented application university.

SXAU was one of the first universities selected for the national innovation and entrepreneurship education reform demonstration program. Its history dates back to 1907 when the Private Mingxian School was founded by Kong Xiangxi.

Shanxi Agricultural University's strengths are deeply rooted in its century-long agricultural tradition and its integration with the Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The university boasts 9 postdoctoral research stations, 9 first-level doctoral degree authorization disciplines, 14 first-level master's degree authorization disciplines, and 70 undergraduate programs.

Its flagship programs—Agronomy, Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Resources and Environment, and Food Science and Engineering—are recognized as national characteristic specialties. Agricultural Science and Plant & Animal Science have entered the ESI global top 1%, reflecting strong international influence.

Academically, Shanxi Agricultural University offers a comprehensive range of programs across 22 teaching units, with 70 undergraduate majors and a full spectrum of master's and doctoral degrees. The faculty comprises 4,358 members, including over 1,200 with senior titles, and features academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, recipients of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, and chief scientists of national agricultural industry technology systems.

The university has built 2 national experimental teaching demonstration centers and 1 national virtual simulation experimental teaching center. Its curriculum is forward-looking, incorporating courses such as Smart Agriculture, Bioinformatics, and Food Safety.

SXAU has two distinctive campuses. The Taigu campus is set in a historic town with lush greenery and preserved Mingxian School buildings, offering a rich cultural atmosphere. The Longcheng campus in Taiyuan features modern facilities and convenient urban access.

The total campus area is 205 hectares with 1.455 million square meters of buildings. The library holds over 2 million volumes and provides access to major academic databases. Student dormitories are comfortable with air conditioning, internet, and private bathrooms, available in 4-person and 6-person rooms.
