Inner Mongolia University of Technology

Inner Mongolia University of Technology (IMUT) is a full-time public university located in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Founded in 1951 and reestablished in 1958 with support from Tsinghua University, IMUT is now a comprehensive engineering-focused institution.

As a Chinese Government Scholarship recipient university, it actively promotes internationalization through partnerships with universities worldwide. The university covers 3,727 mu (about 248 hectares) across four campuses: Xincheng, Jinchuan, Zhungeer, and Kangbashi, with over 28,500 students enrolled.

IMUT excels in engineering, materials science, and chemical engineering, with three disciplines—Engineering, Materials Science, and Chemistry—ranked in the top 1% globally by ESI. The university is a key participant in the Ministry of Education's Excellent Engineer Program and New Engineering Projects, emphasizing hands-on learning and innovation.

Its traditional strengths in mechanical, chemical, and materials engineering have built a strong reputation among employers. In 2025, IMUT established a Large Model Research Institute and launched the 'IMUT Tiangong' large model, showcasing its commitment to AI.

IMUT comprises 23 teaching units offering 84 undergraduate programs, along with 26 master's and 9 doctoral degree programs, plus 3 postdoctoral research stations. The faculty includes 2,187 staff, with 1,560 full-time teachers, 218 professors, and 137 doctoral supervisors, including 19 national-level talents like Changjiang Scholars.

The curriculum blends theory and practice through specialized tracks such as Excellent Engineer classes and New Engineering labs. Research is supported by provincial key labs and engineering centers, with the new Large Model Institute driving AI research.

IMUT's four campuses offer diverse experiences: Xincheng is in the city center, Jinchuan has modern amenities, and Zhungeer and Kangbashi boast scenic surroundings. The 3,727-mu campus includes libraries, gyms, and labs.

Dormitories are equipped with air conditioning and internet, and canteens serve varied cuisines, including halal options. Hohhot's cool summers and snowy winters, along with its grassland culture, provide a vibrant backdrop for student life, with numerous clubs and cultural activities.
