China West Normal University

China West Normal University (CWNU) is a key provincial university located in Nanchong, Sichuan Province. As the first normal university in Sichuan, it traces its origins to the National Northeastern University during the War of Resistance against Japan.

After several mergers and name changes, it was officially named China West Normal University in 2003. CWNU is among the first batch of institutions in China authorized to confer bachelor's and master's degrees, and is selected for Sichuan's 'Double First-Class' initiative.

CWNU is renowned for its teacher education tradition, being the cradle of normal education in Sichuan. It offers 2 doctoral degree programs, 20 master's degree programs, and 18 professional master's categories. Five disciplines, including chemistry, materials science, and engineering, rank in the top 1% of ESI globally.

Flagship majors include education, Chinese language and literature, history, chemistry, and biological sciences, with education and Chinese language and literature recognized as national characteristic programs. The university has a strong reputation in teacher training, ecology, and environmental science.

CWNU boasts a highly qualified faculty of over 3,000, with more than 40% holding senior academic titles, including national and provincial teaching masters and excellent teams. The curriculum emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, offering general education, core disciplinary, and interdisciplinary courses, and encouraging student participation in research.

The university hosts multiple provincial-level research platforms, such as key laboratories, engineering research centers, and humanities and social science bases, producing significant outcomes in ecology, environmental science, teacher education, and regional culture.

The campus is green and pleasant, with modern facilities at Huafeng Campus and historic architecture at Xingshu Campus. Teaching facilities include smart classrooms, a well-stocked library, laboratories, sports venues, and an art center.
