Guangxi Minzu University (GXMZU) is located in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, at the forefront of China-ASEAN cooperation. It is a key university jointly built by the Guangxi government and the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, and is part of the National Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in Central and Western China.

As a Chinese Government Scholarship host institution, it hosts the China-ASEAN Legal Training Base and the Chinese Language Talent Training Center. The university was rated by Global Human Geography as one of China's nine most poetic universities.

Features & strengths

GXMZU's flagship programs include ethnology, Southeast Asian languages, and chemical engineering. Its ethnology discipline has a postdoctoral station and a doctoral program, leading in ethnic theory and cross-border ethnic studies.

It is the only base in Southwest China for training non-common foreign language talents, offering eight Southeast Asian languages such as Thai, Vietnamese, and Indonesian. The university also excels in law, public administration, and chemical engineering.

The university comprises 26 colleges offering 76 undergraduate programs, 20 first-level master's programs, 26 professional master's programs, 5 doctoral programs, and one postdoctoral station. It has over 2,500 faculty members, with more than 40% holding senior titles and a growing number with overseas experience.

The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary learning and practical skills, with English-taught courses in Southeast Asian studies, ethnology, and international relations. Research platforms include the China-ASEAN Research Center and the Guangxi Ethnic Research Center, supporting projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.
