Overview

Jiangsu Police Institute (JPI) is located in Nanjing, a major city in eastern China. It is the only public security and legal undergraduate institution in Jiangsu Province and one of the first provincial public security universities established in China.

Its predecessor, the Nanjing Public Security School, was founded in 1949. JPI was upgraded to an undergraduate institution in 2002 and approved as a master's degree granting unit in 2021, offering the Master of Police degree.

Features & strengths

Jiangsu Police Institute holds a prominent position in the field of public security and law. As the talent cradle for Jiangsu's police force, a large proportion of provincial police officers are JPI graduates, earning it the reputation of 'Cradle of Jiangsu Police Officers.' The institute offers a Master of Police degree, the only independent police master's program in Jiangsu.

Its 17 undergraduate majors include Criminal Investigation, Public Security Management, Forensic Science, and Cybersecurity and Law Enforcement, several of which are provincial-level specialty programs. JPI has established practical training bases with the Jiangsu Provincial Public Security Department and local police bureaus, allowing students to engage in real-case simulations and police drills.

Teaching & research

JPI comprises 10 teaching departments, including the Department of Criminal Investigation, Department of Public Security Management, Department of Forensic Science, and Department of Cybersecurity and Law Enforcement. It has 370 full-time faculty members, over 40% of whom hold senior professional titles, and many have overseas study or practical police experience.

The curriculum emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, featuring courses such as 'Police Practical Skills,' 'Crime Scene Investigation,' and 'Digital Evidence Collection.' The institute is equipped with advanced simulated interrogation rooms, virtual simulation labs, and DNA testing labs.

Campus & facilities

JPI has three campuses: Pukou, Andemen, and Longtan, covering a total area of 670,000 square meters with a building area of approximately 350,000 square meters. The main Pukou campus features modern facilities including a library, gymnasium, shooting range, and obstacle training field.

Student dormitories are four-person rooms with air conditioning, private bathrooms, and internet access. The campus is green and pleasant, with a police culture square and a simulated street for daily training. Andemen campus is located in the city center, mainly for continuing education.
