University Profile

Introduction

China University of Labor Relations: China's only public university specializing in labor relations and trade union studies, with campuses in Beijing and Hebei, cultivating global labor governance talents.

Overview

China University of Labor Relations (CULR), located in Beijing, is a full-time undergraduate institution jointly established by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) and the Ministry of Education, directly under the ACFTU.

Tracing its roots to the Yan'an Workers' School founded in 1939, CULR became a regular undergraduate university in 2003 and was approved as a master's degree-granting unit in 2021. It is the most authoritative institution in China for labor relations, trade union studies, and labor law.

Features & strengths

CULR is China's only undergraduate university specializing in labor relations, trade union studies, and labor law, often called the 'cradle of Chinese trade union cadres.' It has outstanding programs in labor and social security, labor relations, social work, and safety engineering, with the labor relations program designated as a national first-class undergraduate program.

Its close ties with the ACFTU give it an irreplaceable position in labor policy research and trade union cadre training. In recent years, CULR achieved a breakthrough in master's education in public administration (labor and social security direction) and became a master's degree-granting unit in 2021.

Teaching & research

CULR boasts a high-quality faculty of 337 full-time teachers, over 50% of whom hold senior titles, with many serving in national academic organizations. The curriculum emphasizes theory-practice integration: the labor relations program offers core courses like collective bargaining, labor law, HR management, and trade union organization, supported by mock arbitration tribunals and labor policy labs.

Research-wise, the university operates provincial-level platforms such as the Institute of Labor Relations and Trade Union Studies and the Labor Education Research Center, undertaking numerous national social science fund projects.

Campus & facilities

The Haidian campus in Beijing is located in the Zhongguancun core area, adjacent to Peking University and Tsinghua University, offering rich academic resources and convenient transportation. The campus is tree-lined with modern teaching buildings, a library, gymnasium, and student apartments.

The Zhuozhou campus in Hebei is spacious and scenic, featuring a standard sports field, experimental training centers, and living facilities. Both campuses provide free Wi-Fi, air-conditioned dormitories, and multiple canteens catering to diverse diets.
