Hunan Institute of Science and Technology

Hunan Polytechnic University is located in Yueyang, a historic city in Hunan Province near Dongting Lake, known for its scenic beauty and convenient transportation. As a domestic first-class discipline construction university and a doctoral degree granting project construction unit in Hunan, it is also a national pilot university for industry-education integration in application-oriented undergraduate education.

Its history dates back to Huping University founded in 1910, and after several mergers and developments, it became a full undergraduate institution in 1999 and was officially renamed Hunan Polytechnic University in 2026.

Hunan Polytechnic University's strengths lie in its clear application-oriented positioning and industry-education integration. As a first-class discipline construction university in Hunan, it excels in engineering, teacher education, economics, and management.

It offers 11 first-level discipline master's degree programs and 15 professional master's degree categories, covering 55 undergraduate majors. The university emphasizes the combination of theory and practice, with numerous internship bases established with enterprises, leading to consistently high graduate employment rates.

The university comprises 18 teaching colleges and boasts a highly qualified faculty, with over 40% holding senior academic titles and many having overseas study or research experience. The curriculum is designed to be international and practical, with some programs offering English-taught courses and encouraging student participation in international academic exchanges.

In research, the university hosts several provincial key laboratories and engineering research centers, such as the Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Advanced Catalysis and Energy Materials and the Hunan Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Intelligent Transportation Systems, undertaking numerous national and provincial research projects.
