University Profile

Introduction

Located in the historic city of Hanzhong, Shaanxi University of Technology is a multi-disciplinary provincial university with strong engineering programs, master's degree authority, and international cooperation.

Overview

Shaanxi University of Technology (SUT) is situated in Hanzhong, a renowned historical and cultural city in Shaanxi Province, China, known as one of the birthplaces of Han culture. As a provincial key university, SUT offers programs across eight academic disciplines: literature, economics, law, education, history, science, engineering, and management.

It was among the first batch of Chinese universities authorized to confer bachelor's degrees and gained master's degree-granting status in 2006. The university was renamed Shaanxi University of Technology in 2016. With two campuses covering 1.28 million square meters, SUT comprises 15 colleges, 3 academies, and a teaching experiment center, along with a Sino-foreign cooperative education institution.

Features & strengths

SUT's academic strengths lie in engineering, materials science, biology, and Hanzhong culture studies. Key provincial-level disciplines include mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, biology, and Chinese language and literature, which play vital roles in regional economic and social development.

The university offers 25 master's degree programs across engineering, science, humanities, and management, providing a smooth pathway for undergraduates to pursue advanced degrees. In engineering, SUT has established industry-university-research bases with major enterprises, and its graduate employment rate has consistently remained above 90%, particularly in equipment manufacturing, electronic information, and biomedicine.

Teaching & research

SUT employs over 1,260 full-time faculty members, with more than 40% holding senior professional titles and a growing proportion possessing doctoral degrees. The faculty includes experts receiving special allowances from the State Council, provincial teaching masters, and returnees from overseas studies, who not only teach but also guide students in national and provincial research projects.

The university offers 52 undergraduate programs, with engineering programs emphasizing the integration of theory and practice, supported by provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers and virtual simulation centers.

Campus & facilities

SUT's two campuses offer distinct environments: the South Campus is located in downtown Hanzhong, with convenient access to shopping and amenities, while the North Campus sits along the Han River, providing a tranquil, tree-lined setting ideal for study.

Modern facilities include teaching buildings, a library, gymnasiums, and student dormitories. The library boasts extensive print and electronic resources, with 24-hour study areas. Dormitories are equipped with air conditioning, hot water, and private bathrooms, ensuring comfortable living.
