Overview
Hunan First Normal University is a public full-time undergraduate institution located in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, directly under the People's Government of Hunan Province. Its predecessor, Changsha Chengnan Academy, was founded in 1161 by Neo-Confucian scholar Zhang Shi.
In 1903, it became Hunan Normal School, and after a century of development, it was upgraded to an undergraduate university in 2008 and approved as a master's degree-granting unit in 2024. As a key national cultural relic protection site and one of the first national practical teaching bases for 'Grand Ideological and Political Courses,' the university blends deep historical heritage with modern education.
