Kunming University is a full-time regular higher education institution located in Kunming, Yunnan Province, approved by the Ministry of Education and jointly established by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education and Kunming Municipal Government.
Its predecessors were Kunming Teachers College (founded in 1980) and Kunming University (founded in 1984), which merged in 2004 to form Kunming University. In 2009, Kunming Agricultural School and Kunming Health School were incorporated.
Kunming University has notable strengths in teacher education and application-oriented talent cultivation. It offers 16 master's degree programs, and its first-level doctoral programs in Physics and Chinese Language and Literature, as well as a professional doctoral program in Agriculture, have been approved for provincial-level construction, indicating strong academic potential.
