Lingnan Normal University

Lingnan Normal University (LNU) is a provincial public undergraduate institution in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province, with a century-long history of teacher education. Its roots trace back to the Leiyang Academy founded in 1636, and it was officially renamed Lingnan Normal University in 2014.

While teacher education remains its core strength, LNU offers 75 undergraduate programs and 3 master's degree programs across 10 disciplines including economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, management, and arts.

LNU's flagship programs are in teacher education, particularly special education, primary education, and Chinese language and literature. It chairs the Guangdong Special Education Teacher Development Alliance, giving it national recognition in this field.

The university is part of Guangdong's 'Top-tier, Weakness-fixing, and Strengthening' higher education initiative and received an 'Excellent' rating in the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching evaluation. LNU also leads the National Island Education Development and Rural Revitalization Alliance and collaborates with the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Zhanjiang), creating unique strengths in marine science and rural development.

With over 2,300 faculty and staff, LNU boasts a highly qualified teaching force. Its teaching and research equipment is valued at over 300 million yuan, supporting advanced labs and platforms like the joint lab with Zhanjiang Bay Laboratory.

The curriculum blends theory and practice: teacher-training programs emphasize teaching skills, while non-education majors align with industry needs. LNU is a model university for rule-of-law education and a demonstration school for innovation and entrepreneurship in Guangdong.

LNU has three campuses—Cunjin, Huguang, and Shenchuan—covering 2,580 mu (about 172 hectares). The Huguang campus is near the scenic Huguangyan Lake, offering a beautiful natural setting. Facilities include smart classrooms, modern labs, a library, and sports venues.
