Tonghua Normal University

Tonghua Normal University, located in Tonghua City, Jilin Province, is the only provincial undergraduate institution in southeastern Jilin. Its origins date back to the Tonghua Normal Training Institute founded in 1906, and it was upgraded to a full undergraduate university in 1978.

In 2025, with approval from the Jilin Provincial Government, it merged with Jilin Provincial Engineering Technician College and Forestry Technician College to establish the Baishan Campus, forming a multi-campus structure.

Tonghua Normal University has a traditional strength in teacher education, while actively developing applied disciplines. Its normal programs have a long history and have produced a large number of basic education teachers, earning a strong reputation in southeastern Jilin.

After merging with two technician colleges, its engineering and forestry technology programs have been significantly enhanced, making it a key base for regional skilled talent training. Flagship majors include Primary Education, Chinese Language and Literature, Biological Sciences, and Computer Science and Technology, several of which are provincial first-class undergraduate programs.

The university boasts a well-structured and high-quality faculty of 1,105, with over 40% holding senior titles and more than 80% holding doctoral or master's degrees. It emphasizes teaching reform, promoting small-class teaching and case-based methods, and strengthening practical components.

It has provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers and virtual simulation centers. In research, the university hosts provincial research institutes such as the Changbai Mountain Culture Research Center and the Jilin Provincial Characteristic Culture Research Base, with strengths in Changbai Mountain biological resource conservation and local cultural heritage.

The main campus is located in downtown Tonghua, with convenient transportation and complete living facilities. The campus is highly green with seasonal scenery, featuring modern teaching buildings, labs, a library, a gymnasium, and student dormitories.

Dormitories are equipped with air conditioning, hot water, and internet, providing comfortable accommodation. The cafeteria offers diverse dining options, including halal windows and local snacks. On-campus services include supermarkets, banks, post offices, and a clinic.
