Overview

Taiyuan Institute of Technology (TIT) is a full-time regular undergraduate university located in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province, China. Administered by the Shanxi Provincial People's Government, TIT focuses on engineering while covering eight major disciplines: engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, arts, and education.

It is dedicated to cultivating high-quality application-oriented talents. As a university supported by the National '13th Five-Year' Applied Undergraduate Industry-Education Integration Development Project and a pilot institution for the transformation of Shanxi's undergraduate universities into application-oriented institutions, TIT leads in industry-education integration and innovation entrepreneurship education.

Features & strengths

Taiyuan Institute of Technology's strengths lie in its deep ordnance industry heritage and distinctive application-oriented positioning. Founded in 1954 as North China Fifth Industrial School, a national key secondary specialized school for national defense during China's first Five-Year Plan, it later became a directly affiliated institution of the Ministry of Ordnance Industry (one of the seven ordnance industry universities).

This history gives TIT unique advantages in military industry, mechanical engineering, and chemical engineering. TIT is supported by the National '13th Five-Year' Applied Undergraduate Industry-Education Integration Development Project, selected for the Ministry of Education's first batch of National New Engineering Research and Practice Projects, and recognized as a model university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in Shanxi.

Teaching & research

Taiyuan Institute of Technology comprises 11 teaching departments and 3 teaching divisions, offering 51 undergraduate programs. The university boasts a high-quality faculty, with 916 full-time teachers, including 102 master's supervisors, many of whom have overseas study or visiting experience.

TIT emphasizes curriculum innovation, implementing New Engineering research and practice projects to drive engineering education reform. In research, TIT has several provincial key laboratories and engineering research centers, collaborating closely with ordnance enterprises and research institutes on applied research.
