Overview

Located in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, Shandong Women's University (SDWU) is a full-time public undergraduate institution sponsored by the Shandong Provincial Government. It is a member of the World Women's Education Alliance and the China Women's Higher Education Alliance.

Originally founded in 1952 as the Shandong Women Cadre School, it was restructured into a regular undergraduate university in 2010, becoming one of only three independent women's universities in China. SDWU operates two campuses: Shizhong Yuhan in the city center and Changqing in the university town, covering a total area of about 73 hectares with a building area of 279,400 square meters.

Features & strengths

SDWU's core strength lies in its unique positioning as a women's university and its interdisciplinary innovation platforms. It is recognized as a 'Smart Education Demonstration School' in Shandong Province, with flagship programs in Women's Studies, Social Work, Early Childhood Education, and Digital Media Arts.

The Women's Studies program was among the first in China, and Social Work has been selected as a provincial first-class undergraduate program. The university houses the Digital Creative Modern Industry College, the Network Audiovisual Industry College, and the Film and Media Center, which collaborate with leading companies to cultivate applied talents.

Teaching & research

SDWU comprises 17 teaching colleges offering 53 undergraduate programs across disciplines including liberal arts, sciences, engineering, management, arts, education, and law. Over 40% of faculty hold senior titles, and the proportion with doctoral degrees is steadily increasing.

The university promotes small-class teaching and seminar-style learning, utilizing smart classrooms and online platforms for blended instruction. Research centers include the Shandong Key Laboratory of Smart Education, the Women's Development Research Center, and the Qilu Cultural Heritage Innovation Center, which undertake national and provincial projects.

Campus & facilities

SDWU's two campuses offer distinct environments: the Shizhong Yuhan campus is centrally located with convenient access to city amenities, while the Changqing campus is set in a scenic university town with modern facilities.

The library holds 1.6 million print books and 1.65 million e-books, with 24-hour study areas and digital resources. Student dormitories are equipped with air conditioning, water heaters, and private bathrooms. The dining halls provide diverse meal options to suit various dietary needs.
