Kashi University

Kashi University is situated in Kashgar, Xinjiang, a key node of the Belt and Road Initiative, the starting point of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and the regional hub of southern Xinjiang. As the westernmost university in China, it lies in the heart of the Eurasian continent, bordering several Central Asian countries, offering a unique geographical advantage.

Founded in 1962 as Kashi Teachers College, it was upgraded to Kashi Normal College in 1978, renamed Kashi University in 2015, and approved as a doctoral degree-granting institution in 2024. Over six decades, it has evolved from a normal school into a comprehensive university with three campuses—Gaotai, Xinquan, and Dongcheng—covering about 270 hectares.

Kashi University's core strength lies in its strategic location and positioning. As a university at the starting point of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, it has natural advantages in regional studies, cross-border trade, and multilingual education.

Education is its flagship discipline, with a doctoral program, along with 16 master's programs and 77 undergraduate majors spanning arts, sciences, engineering, law, economics, management, and education. It is part of the Midwestern University Basic Capacity Construction Project and one of China's 100 pilot universities for transformation and development, with deep roots in teacher training and ethnic education.

Kashi University employs over 2,300 faculty and staff, many with overseas study experience. The university emphasizes internationalized curricula, offering bilingual courses and cross-cultural communication classes, and actively recruits foreign teachers.

Research is supported by multiple provincial-level key labs and humanities bases, focusing on Central and South Asian studies, border governance, and ecological conservation. The university collaborates with universities and research institutes in Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and other neighboring countries, hosting regular international conferences.

Kashi University's three campuses each have distinct features: Gaotai campus is historic and tree-lined; Xinquan campus boasts modern facilities including teaching buildings, labs, and a gymnasium; Dongcheng campus is under development for future expansion.

Dormitories are well-equipped with double and quadruple rooms, air conditioning, and private bathrooms. Canteens serve diverse cuisines, including halal and Western options. An international student service center assists with visas, accommodation, and cultural adaptation.
