Minzu Normal University of Xingyi is located in Xingyi City, Guizhou Province, at the junction of Yunnan, Guizhou, and Guangxi provinces, known as the 'thoroughfare of three provinces' and a key commercial and transportation hub in Southwest China.

It is a full-time comprehensive undergraduate university jointly established by the provincial and prefectural governments. Its history traces back to the Bishan Academy rebuilt in 1813, evolving through Xingyi Higher Primary School, Normal Training Institute, and Xingyi Normal College, before being upgraded to a bachelor's degree-granting institution by the Ministry of Education in 2009.

Features & strengths

The university's core strengths lie in its unique ethnic education tradition and strategic location. As the only undergraduate normal university in the Qianxinan Prefecture, it plays an irreplaceable role in training teachers for ethnic minority regions, earning the reputation as the 'cradle of basic education teachers in southwestern Guizhou.' It features provincial-level key disciplines and distinctive programs such as Education, Ethnology, and Mountain Tourism Management, with Education selected as a first-class undergraduate program in Guizhou Province.

Through deep cooperation with local governments and enterprises, the university has developed strong expertise in ethnic cultural heritage preservation and mountain tourism development. In 2023, it led the establishment of the International Mountain Tourism and Outdoor Sports Talent Training Alliance, further enhancing its industry influence.

Teaching & research

The university has 561 full-time faculty, including 266 with senior professional titles, 123 with doctoral degrees, and 337 with master's degrees, a relatively strong faculty among similar institutions. It boasts 29 provincial and prefectural-level talents such as experts receiving special allowances from the Guizhou Provincial Government and provincial teaching masters, as well as 67 recipients of honors like 'National Excellent Teacher.' Academically, the university emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, offering 42 undergraduate programs and operating several provincial-level experimental teaching demonstration centers and internship bases.

Research platforms include the Chinese Culture Academy and the Ethnic Education Research Center, focusing on ethnic region education, cultural heritage, and mountain tourism. In recent years, the university has undertaken multiple national and provincial research projects, with outcomes positively impacting ethnic education and local culture.
