Overview
Xinjiang Institute of Engineering (XIE) is a provincial public undergraduate university located in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Founded on the coal industry and thriving on engineering, its origins trace back to 1958 when a group of demobilized soldiers established a coal mining school.
After several name changes and mergers, it was upgraded to a full undergraduate institution in 2012 and became one of China's first 100 application-oriented pilot universities. XIE has two campuses covering nearly 2,000 mu (about 133 hectares), with 13 secondary colleges, 49 undergraduate programs, and around 18,200 full-time students.
