Zhaotong University

Zhaotong University, located in Zhaotong City, northeastern Yunnan Province, is a provincial application-oriented undergraduate institution. Its history dates back to a normal training institute founded in 1906, and it became a full undergraduate university in 2012—the first of its kind in Zhaotong.

The campus covers over 800 mu (about 53 hectares), hosting nearly 15,000 full-time students and around 1,000 faculty and staff. With 12 teaching colleges and 32 undergraduate majors, the university emphasizes practical education and industry alignment.

Zhaotong University's core strength lies in teacher education, with two national first-class undergraduate programs (e.g., Chinese Language and Literature, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics) and three provincial first-class programs.

Four majors have passed national teacher education accreditation. As a key support institution under the Ministry of Education's Teacher Education Collaborative Quality Improvement Plan, it has a strong reputation in teacher training.

The university has nearly 1,000 faculty members, with over 30% holding senior professional titles, many with overseas study or visiting experience. The curriculum emphasizes theory-practice integration, featuring extensive lab work, training, and internships.

Research platforms include a provincial academician expert workstation, several university-level institutes, and teaching/research equipment worth over 153.7 million RMB. The university has established multiple industry-university-research bases with local government and enterprises, offering students real-world project opportunities.

The 800-mu campus is well-vegetated, blending modern and traditional architecture. Facilities include smart classrooms, specialized labs, a library with extensive collections, a gymnasium, and standard sports fields. Student dormitories are equipped with air conditioning, private bathrooms, and internet access.
