Overview

Guilin Tourism University (GLTU) is a full-time public undergraduate institution located in Guilin, Guangxi, a world-renowned tourist destination. Co-built by the Guangxi government and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, GLTU is an affiliate member of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and a member of the World Tourism Alliance and Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA).

As one of China's 100 applied undergraduate universities for industry-education integration, it is also included in the Ministry of Education's 'Pairing Assistance Program' with Nankai University as its partner. Founded in 1985 and upgraded to a bachelor's degree-granting institution in 2015, GLTU was approved as a master's degree granting unit under construction in 2021.

Features & strengths

GLTU's core strength lies in its tourism-focused identity and deep industry integration. As a UNWTO affiliate, its flagship programs in Tourism Management, Hotel Management, and Event Management are recognized as national or provincial first-class undergraduate programs.

The university is a model for applied education, collaborating with global hotel chains (Hilton, Marriott) and tourism enterprises to build internship bases and industry colleges. It hosts the Guangxi Tourism Industry Research Institute and a Tourism Big Data Lab, providing research support for regional tourism.

Teaching & research

GLTU comprises 15 academic units offering 40 bachelor's and 14 associate degree programs, covering Tourism Management, Hotel Management, Event Management, Tourism English, Tourism Japanese, Culinary Science, and Digital Media Arts.

The faculty includes 838 full-time teachers, over 40% with senior titles, and a growing number with overseas experience. The curriculum emphasizes 'theory + practice + internationalization', featuring UNWTO-certified courses and joint programs (2+2, 3+1) with universities in the US, UK, Thailand, and South Korea.

Campus & facilities

GLTU's two campuses, Yanshan and Canluan, are nestled in Guilin's picturesque karst landscape. The main Yanshan campus features modern classrooms, a library with 3.64 million volumes (1.71 million print, 1.74 million e-books), and specialized tourism reading areas.

On-campus facilities include simulated hotels, travel agencies, and culinary training centers for immersive learning. Student dormitories are air-conditioned with hot water, and canteens offer diverse cuisines. Sports facilities include a gym, track field, and swimming pool.
