Henan Sport University

Henan Sport University (HSU) is a public undergraduate institution located in Zhengzhou, a major transportation hub in central China. Co-built by the Henan Provincial Sports Bureau and the Department of Education, HSU traces its roots to 1958 and became an independent sports university in 2024 after separating from Zhengzhou University.

It operates three campuses in Zhengzhou, Dengfeng, and Wenxian, covering nearly 1,300 mu (about 86 hectares). With around 6,140 full-time undergraduates and joint master's programs with Zhengzhou University, HSU is the core base for training sports professionals in Henan.

As the only independent sports university in Henan Province, HSU has distinct industry characteristics and a strong sports heritage. Its flagship programs include Physical Education, Sports Training, and Traditional Ethnic Sports, with Physical Education recognized as a provincial-level specialty.

The university has received honors such as 'National Advanced Unit for Mass Sports' and 'Henan Provincial Civilized Campus,' reflecting its excellence in promoting mass sports and cultivating competitive athletes. Close collaboration with the Henan Provincial Sports Bureau provides students with hands-on experience in provincial teams and sports events.

HSU comprises 7 teaching departments offering 9 undergraduate majors, including Physical Education, Sports Training, Social Sports Guidance, Wushu and Traditional Ethnic Sports, and Sports Human Science. It has one provincial key discipline (Sports Science) and jointly trains master's students with Zhengzhou University.

The faculty includes over 390 full-time teachers, with more than 40% holding senior titles, 5 doctoral supervisors, and over 40 master's supervisors. The university emphasizes practical teaching, with laboratories for exercise physiology and biomechanics, plus multiple off-campus internship bases.

HSU has three campuses: the main Zhengzhou campus near the Henan Sports Center offers convenient transportation and complete living facilities; the Dengfeng campus at the foot of Mount Song provides a scenic environment ideal for martial arts training; the Wenxian campus is close to the birthplace of Tai Chi.

All campuses feature standard track fields, gymnasiums, swimming pools, fitness centers, as well as dormitories, dining halls, and medical centers. With high greenery coverage, the university has been recognized as a 'Henan Provincial Garden Unit,' ensuring a comfortable living and learning environment for students.
